
Our Objects
To carry on for the benefit of the inhabitants of Lancaster district and the Morecambe Bay area the business of providing land and property for affordable housing, work places, leisure, training, educational and community development purposes
To protect and enhance the wider environment, in order to improve conditions for wildlife, biodiversity and capacity for sustaining life, including food production.
We will do this by:
· acquiring, holding, developing and leasing land, buildings and other tangible assets by purchase gift or otherwise acquiring; and making its assets available as far as practicable to all people who live or work in the community; and enabling people to build thriving, inclusive communities through the democratic ownership and stewardship of such land and other assets; and
· ensuring that the long-term value to the community is maintained
· resisting short-term benefits if these are obtained at a long-term cost
· working in partnership with other organisations with similar aims
· encouraging similar practices by other organisations
· lobbying for political and social structures that enable it to operate successfully
· over time, removing the cost of the land itself from the charges necessarily levied for the maintenance and development of its land and other assets
· using any gains made from our assets for the benefit of the community
· identifying and taking opportunities that enhance the natural environment, enable personal development and contribute to the cultural and historical legacy of the community
· promoting local and sustainable food production and consumption
· encouraging property users to work towards achieving high levels of sustainable activity (economically, environmentally and socially) and to commit to encouraging lifelong development and learning of all their customers, clients, staff and volunteers
· helping build capacity and motivation in the local community so that as many residents as possible engage in shaping the places they live, work and play
· demonstrating best practice in inclusive community involvement and internal governance, so that all people of all ages, sexual orientation, genders, ethnicity and abilities feel welcome to participate.
