Levens Drive woods - Technically Heysham but close to Morecambe
Join us in these woods on the third Thursday of each month10:00-12:30
These small woods are bounded by the railway line to the port of Heysham on the north side, and Levens Drive on the south side. They are owned by Lancashire County Council, and we are managing the woods on their behalf.
The woods have not had much attention in recent years and have attracted anti-social behavious by way of littering and setting fires. But volunteers, through the Forest Friends Project have done a lot in 2016/17/18 and they are much more attractive now. But there are some excellent wildlife ponds which are not commonly found in woodlands.

Volunteers have been concentrating on improving access to the woods - the paths are very muddy in winter. We hope to obtain a sizeable grant to impove the paths and have workcarried out by contractors in 2019. They will also re-dig two of the ponds which have become filled in through the natural silting process
We have also planted seedling trees (supplied free by the Woodland Trust) which will replace some of the Aspens, which are suckering and becoming dominant.
