Housing and Office projects explored in the Morecambe Bay area

CLT directors have explored several sites to assess their suitability for developing affordable housing. We have looked at sites in Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham. We have appraised the suitability of both brownfield sites, and he conversion of older buildings. To date however, we have not found a tite that can be made to work in financial terms.
In addition to housing, we are aware that there is a real need for affordable office space for voluntary and community organisations. The greatest need is in Lancaster City centre, but there is also a need in Morecambe West End. Many offices have poor access for people with disbilities, and an accessible location is needed for clients to easily access services. Office space is not as profitable for private landlords as providing rental accommodation, so we have been contacting other building owners - such as churches and the local authorities - to see if they have un-utilised space.

At the moment, the CLT directors are concentrating their time on De Vitre Community Gardens, and other greenspace sites. However, if you have an idea for a project or see s site with potention, please do contact us
